UPDATE - 18/06/12 - RHI Renweable Heat Incentives

Recently the Government has announced a series of measures and incentives to enable our ever increasing energy useage to start to heavily shift towards more and more renewable sources of energy. These include solar generation and ground source heat etc.

To read about the full breakdown of the Renewable Heat Incentives being made available for all manner of property type owners where renewable heat energy equipment and systems are employed or are about to be employed, please click on the below link for the official press statements and supporting details PDF documents.

http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/meeting_energy/renewable_ener/incentive/incentive.aspx

Here at Smartpowershop we advise on and sell all kinds of heat meters, integrators, calculators, ultrasonic meters and heat metering systems that will be integral to this new push on changing our economy's reliance on fossil fuels to becoming more renewable based. Please feel free to ask for advice on all of our equipment we advertise, or to simply use us as a sounding board for any upcoming install projects you are dealing with!

Thank you.

What is a heat meter?

A heat meter is used to measure the amount of heat (in terms of kWh) that has been dissipated in a loop of pipe work. The pipe work would usually feed some sort of heating loop with a number of radiators etc. A heat meter consists of a number of parts.

  • A Hot Water Meter - This measures the flow of liquid in the pipework. The meter would have a pulse output connected to the heat integrator or calculator.
  • Thermocouples - Two Thermocouples would be used. One in the flow leg of the pipework measuring the hot water entering the loop. The other thermocouple would be in the return leg of the pipework measuring the temperature of the water after it had been through the loop of pipework being monitored.
  • A Heat Integrator - This device calculates the amount of kWh consumed by the loop of pipework by measuring the flow of liquid in the pipe and measuring the temperature in the flow and return leg of the pipework. The unit then integrates these values to come up with a kWh reading for the consumed energy in heating the loop.

Heat Integrators usually have an electronic display to show the kWh reading. This may be battery, low voltage or mains driven. In addition the heat meter calculator may also have a pulse output which could be connected to a building management system or energy management system. It would also be possible to get heat meters with either MODBUS or M-BUS communications to enable intelligent connections to remote systems.

The team at the SmartPowerShop are experts in Heat Meters. If you need help or advice from our friendly team in specifying a heat meter the email us or call +44(0)1244 393800
